Rocky Mountain High
The Masonic Lodge with the highest elevation in the United States is Corinthian Lodge No. 35 at Leadville, Colorado, (an old mining town with an elevation of 10,430 feet above sea level).
Leadville, located within easy driving distance from
Denver and Colorado Springs, was designated in 1998 by the US Secretary of
Transportation as the Top of Rockies Scenic Byway. Leadville is a legendary
frontier mining town with seventy square blocks of Victorian architecture, an
adjacent 20 square miles of mining district, and history galore. In fact, it's
North America's highest incorporated city at a lofty perch of 10,430 feet. The
locale sees 310 days of sunshine each year and summer temperatures seldom over
80 degrees. Leadville is the hub of a 76 mile route which offers some
spectacular views of the Sawatch and Mosquito mountain ranges.
